A large slip that was blocking most of State Highway 2 in the Rimutaka Gorge has been cleared.
Earlier the New Zealand Transport Agency swaid the southbound lane was blocked entirely and the northbound lane partially blocked.
It urged motorists to "take extra care".
Moments ago, the agency tweeted to say the road was clear and thanked motorists for their patience.
The slip was one of several blocking roads around the country.
Yesterday, the Ngaio Gorge - the link between central Wellington and the Ngaio and Khandallah areas - was blocked.
And residents were evacuated from homes on Evans Bay Parade and Devon St after separate slips threatened the properties.
