The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is hoping to be involved in doing the score for the Hobbit movie - something that could earn it as much as $400,000.
NZSO board chairman Donald Best told Parliament's government administration committee yesterday that film was a way of making money, and the orchestra was well regarded in the industry.
He said the NZSO was attending a meeting in Shanghai on October 29 with Asian film industry leaders, which was an opportunity to make a pitch for business.
