NZ's 'Mother of the Year' overwhelmed by award

New Zealand's Mother of the Year says it is hard to put into words how fabulous her children are.

Hamilton mother of three Maree Vaile has taken out top honours this Mother's Day, from more than 200 nominations to the Mothers' Online competition 'Mums on Top'.

Mrs Vaile says her children and husband nominated her, after what have been a tough few years. She says they wanted to acknowledge problems with an illness, a leaky building and other difficulties the family has come through and they are trying their best to have a normal life.

Mrs Vaile says the award is overwhelming and she is lucky to have such amazing children. She says it is hard to describe how it feels watching the achievements they make and the warmth they bring, she just loves being a mum. Mrs Vaile is spending this Mother's Day in Wellington seeing the Monet exhibition.
