The New Zealand Press Association will make its news service available to commercial customers.
Its board decided in Wellington yesterday to seek to sell its news services to other media, including broadcast and internet sites.
Sharing of stories between newspapers through NZPA would be phased out and the organisation would increase its own newsgathering capabilities, said chairman Julian Smith.
Members of NZPA include all 25 daily and Sunday newspapers in New Zealand.
