KEY POINTS:
nzherald.co.nz received a record number of hits as New Zealand and overseas readers looked to see how the country is reacting to the All Blacks' defeat.
Deputy online editor Paul Smith said figures from research company AC Nielsen showed 180,000 people logging on to nzherald.co.nz on Sunday and 1.9 million page impressions made.
Page impressions are the number of times a page is read.
The Sunday figure was a record, but Monday surpassed it, with 270,000 readers and 2.9 million page impressions.
"The figures were what we would be expecting if the All Blacks had won, or at least made the final," Smith said. "Their earlier exit made for mass reading here and overseas."
Yesterday's numbers were likely to be about the same as Sunday's.
Previous records were set during the past few weeks of the World Cup tournament and while the America's Cup regatta was on.
The site has also received a record amount of feedback, including more than 4000 postings and about 400 pages since Sunday on "Why do you think the All Blacks lost?"
People commented from Japan, Australia, Argentina, Britain and India, many blaming the All Blacks' defeat on their arrogance.
