nzherald flashback: May 20, 2000

A subtle but important change had occurred by May 2000, with the addition of continously updated Breaking News to the Herald website.

To accommodate the new service, the website's pages sprouted an extra column on the right hand side, where a fresh story would appear every few minutes.

The online editorial team provided rapid and extensive coverage of the coup in Fiji, including audio reports from FM96 radio in Suva.

Behind the scenes at nzherald.co.nz, other changes were taking place too:
