NZ yachtie on Vanuatu rape charge

A 60-year-old New Zealand man has been arrested and charged with rape and indecent assault after an incident on his yacht in Port Vila.

Vanuatu police said Archie Vivian Smith was arrested on May 30 and could face further charges.

Smith was alleged to have tied a young woman, a Solomon Islander, to a bed on his yacht, the Sea Scamp.

When she shouted for help, people from yachts moored nearby boarded the boat to help her.
