A domestic dispute may have been behind an apparent murder-suicide in which a New Zealand woman died in Brisbane yesterday.
Queensland police believe the dispute may have triggered a Brisbane man to cut his wife's throat before killing himself, the Courier-Mail newspaper reports.
The man, 34, and his wife, 26, were both found dead with knife wounds in Boondall, north Brisbane.
Neighbour Paul Doherty, who lives two doors up and across the road from the couple, said the pair had only moved into the street "a couple of months ago" and kept to themselves.
Other neighbours said the couple could be heard having a very loud argument on Sunday afternoon.
"A neighbour across the back heard shouting and screaming and glass breaking," Mr Doherty said.
Acting Inspector Tim Trezise of Boondall police said "concerned close relatives" of the couple also heard breaking glass from inside the house when they went to the house after a telephone call from the man.
Police investigations were continuing, but at this stage it seemed the man murdered his wife and then used the knife to kill himself.
"At this stage every indication is that it's a murder-suicide," he said.
Police have yet to make contact with the woman's family in New Zealand, and the deceased couple's names could not be released until all family had been notified.
