A front is expected to bring more heavy rain to already sodden parts of the country, according to a Metservice severe weather warning.
Rain is predicted to hit Canterbury coast by tonight and stay there till tomorrow afternoon with the possibility of over 100mm falling in some areas.
Metservice warned members of the public rivers and streams may rise rapidly and there could be flooding and slips.
Around 80-100mm of rain is expected south of the Waiau River in the 36 hours from midday Sunday to 6pm Monday.
Rain is expected to set in around the hills and ranges of East Otago this evening with around 50-70mm of rainfall is predicted from 6pm tonight to 6pm tomorrow.
