A call for New Zealand to toughen up on the international use of the death penalty is being welcomed by at least one politician.
Two leading Australian experts are at Parliament today, hoping to persuade the Government to use its influence to try to stop the use of capital punishment.
United Future leader Peter Dunne is meeting them.
He said New Zealand should be using its UN Security Council seat to push for the change.
Mr Dunne said he saw the practice as reprehensible, and New Zealand should not be scared of asking allies such as the United States and China to stop.
