Three New Zealand universities have been ranked among the top 200 universities in the world in the Times Higher Education Supplement's World University Rankings.
Auckland University was rated at number 67, Massey at 108 and Otago at 114.
Massey's assistant vice-chancellor (research), Nigel Long, said the survey provided a "more sophisticated, robust and well-rounded" method of ranking than the performance-based research fund ratings in April, which placed Massey seventh out of eight New Zealand tertiary institutions for overall staff research.
The Times rankings used quantitative methodology to rank according to indications such as size of institutions, staff numbers, research impacts, student-to-staff ratios and the number of alumni winning prizes and medals.
