KEY POINTS:
Unilever is slashing 20,000 jobs worldwide, but says New Zealand workers are likely to be kept safe from the firing line.
Yesterday the detergent, soap and food company announced plans to cut jobs over four years.
Unilever communications director Nick Goddard told NZPA today that at this stage it was unlikely that New Zealanders working for the company would lose their jobs.
However "you can never say never," he said.
Mr Goddard said Unilever was disposing of parts of its business, such as the United States laundry arm that makes products such as Surf and Snuggles.
The company employs about 2000 people across New Zealand and Australia.
Unilever Australasia will know within the next 12-18 months whether it will face any job losses.
