KEY POINTS:
A New Zealand-trained primary-school teacher in Britain is due to find out if she is to be the first teacher struck off a teaching register in Scotland for incompetence.
Susan Barnard, 55 - who was born in Manchester but trained at the Auckland College of Education in the 1970s - previously pleaded guilty to charges of professional incompetence at a hearing of the General Teaching Council in Scotland (GTCS) in Edinburgh.
She admitted she failed to manage the behaviour of her pupils and was unable to plan lessons.
The GTCS can remove Mrs Barnard from the register, which would mean she could never teach in Scotland or England again.
Mrs Barnard has taught in Scotland for 25 years and her lawyer, Andrew Gibb, said she wanted to keep her registration.
She has already been sacked by Perth and Kinross Council after concerns about her performance at Coupar Angus, Comrie and Arngask primaries between November 2003 and December 2006.
She returned to teaching shortly before 2002 as a supply teacher after a "long period" away from the profession.
The GTCS decision is expected today.
