The Prime Minister has told Indonesia's President Wahid that New Zealand expects his government to make progress on dealing with the armed militia on the West Timor border.
Helen Clark met with the president at the APEC meeting in Brunei, last night.
She says for the first time he put a timetable of early next year for the disbanding of the refugee camps in Timor.
But he would not commit to disarming the militia.
Miss Clark says President Wahid is interested in New Zealand's position.
She says he wants to come to New Zealand and Australia early next year, and will want to be able to show he has made progress in calming down the border.
