New Zealand has backed the likely appointment of South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon as the United Nations Secretary-General.
Mr Ban was yesterday formally nominated by the UN Security Council to replace Kofi Annan as the chief of the organisation. No Security Council nominee has ever been rejected by the UN General Assembly.
"We will support the Security Council's unanimous nomination," said Prime Minister Helen Clark.
