KEY POINTS:
A United States Department of Agriculture inspector has admitted in court to pouring a bottle of bleach into a vat of New Zealand steak in Hawaii.
Inspector Paul Toshio Matsunaga - now retired - told the US District Court in Honolulu that he contaminated the meat on April 14, 2005, because he was unhappy the meatworks had not called him in to work overtime the night before.
Matsunaga faces up to three years in prison, or a $US250,000 fine.
