KEY POINTS:
What does one of the world's richest media tycoons give his mum on her 100th birthday?
A sculpture from New Zealand. Rupert Murdoch yesterday gave his mother, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, a wind-activated kinetic sculpture, known as Ibis, by New Zealander Phil Price, the Herald Sun reported.
The artist is well-known in New Zealand for his artworks in public places, including the "Zephyrometer" - a bright orange wand on the road to Wellington airport - and Protoplasm, a series of lime capsules continually orbiting in the capital's shopping district.
The work given to Dame Elisabeth was from Mr Murdoch and his sisters, Janet Calvert-Jones and Anne Kantor. It was mounted on an island in an ornamental lake at the family home on Cruden Farm, at Langwarrin, east of Melbourne.
