Detained New Zealand citizen Sivaniolo Waqa Naulago was remanded in custody and on his way to a prison outside Suva, a spokesman for Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters said yesterday.
Businessman Ballu Khan and Mr Naulago, an executive in Mr Khan's company Pacific Connex, have both been detained over an alleged plot to assassinate Fiji's military leader, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, and other senior figures in his Government.
Mr Khan's family say he was severely beaten by authorities while being detained.
High Commission staff thought they had obtained permission to see Mr Khan at a set time each day but they were not able to see himyesterday.
Fiji authorities have told the New Zealand officials they have to confirm permission has been given each time.
"We are currently seeking access to see him," Mr Peters' spokesman said.
Prime Minister Helen Clark said on Wednesday that the High Commission visits had been agreed to by Fiji's police commissioner, Esala Teleni.
The agreement was for daily visits to Mr Khan while he was in hospital and access to Mr Naulago while in police detention.
Officials had hoped to see Mr Naulago yesterday but Mr Peters' spokesman said an arrangement had been made with senior prison officers to see him at 9amthis morning.
TV One News yesterday showed Mr Naulago getting into a police van in Suva. He had a plaster above one eye and was also reported to have been beaten.
The lawyer for Mr Khan, Tavita Fa, said he wanted his client to get medical treatment in New Zealand. His client had told him he had slipped in and out of consciousness and suffered internal pain.
Ten people, including former senior Army and intelligence officers and Mr Naulago, appeared yesterday in court in Fiji where a hearing began about whether they should be granted bail.
They appeared in Suva Magistrate's Court each charged with five counts of conspiracy to murder, and one count of mutiny.
They stand accused of trying to kill Commodore Bainimarama, who seized power in a coup last December and appointed himself Prime Minister.
