KEY POINTS:
New Zealand might contribute personnel to a peace mission in Sudan's strife-torn Darfur, Prime Minister Helen Clark said yesterday.
The United Nations Security Council has authorised up to 26,000 troops and police for Darfur and approved the use of force to protect civilians in Sudan's arid western region.
Its aim is to quell violence in Darfur, where more than 2.1 million people are in camps.
Helen Clark said the personnel would probably fill a niche role.
