KEY POINTS:
Justice Minister Simon Power has received an evaluation of a compensation claim made by Rex Haig.
In 2006 the Court of Appeal quashed a murder conviction imposed on Mr Haig in 1995 for the killing of Mark Roderique, a crew member on his fishing boat. Mr Haig sought compensation for the 10 years he served in jail. He alleges his nephew, David Hogan, was responsible for the killing.
An assessment of the claim, conducted by Dr Robert Fisher QC, is now on Justice Minister Simon Power's desk but its contents will not be released until the minister has read the document. The recommendations will have to be considered by Cabinet before any decisions on compensation are made.
