The family of Taranaki man who died following an assault in Spain say they know who was responsible.
Benny John Coulson, 31, died in a La Linea hospital on December 23 after having been attacked by a man his parents allege was an occasional employee of their builder son, the Taranaki Daily News said.
Jock and Jenny Coulson, of Egmont Village, near New Plymouth, flew to Spain after learning from Mr Coulson's wife, Eva Lorenzo, about the attack which left their son in a coma.
Mrs Coulson said it was believed he had been hit from behind by a man while having a beer with friends after work.
His injury was apparently not serious, and on the way home in a taxi her son decided to visit his attacker and get an explanation about the incident.
When he went to the man's house he was allegedly head-butted and knocked unconscious - an injury he never recovered from.
Mrs Coulson said Spanish police were investigating her son's death and it was understood the man in question had fled the country.
Mr Coulson said the family were waiting to hear from police in Spain and hoped the man would face a manslaughter charge.
"Things are going pretty slowly at the moment."
A memorial service for Benny Coulson was held in New Plymouth yesterday.
