New Zealand will join a system designed to detect the use of lost and stolen passports - the Regional Movement Alert List used by the United States and Australia.
When passengers check into airports, they will immediately be identified if they attempt to use lost or stolen passports if they are from one of the participating countries.
The system is linked with the countries' document databases.
