A gold medallist for New Zealand at the London Paralympics, swimmer Mary Fisher, was guest speaker at Solway College's annual sports awards.
The 19-year-old Fisher, who is partially blind, spoke about the excitement of the Games, the pride in representing her country and the "amazing feeling" of hearing the national anthem played after she won the 200m individual medley in record time.
Students were captivated by the charismatic Fisher as she told how she spent several tense moments after her final wondering whether she had won because she was unable to see either her fellow competitors or the scoreboard.
