A diver who broke the world record for the longest swim underwater on a single breath has been disqualified because she was believed to have lost consciousness during the attempt.
Freediver Kathryn Nevatt swam 164m on a single breath at Masterton this morning, breaking the record by 4m.
But her effort has been disqualified by judges who believed she lost consciousness during the swim.
Losing consciousness was shown by dipping her head as she swam underwater, judges said.
Nevatt lodged a protest against the disqualification, which was heard at 2pm today, but the judges were not swayed after viewing the video.
