Winston Peters is demanding free GP visits for old folks.
He wants people with a SuperGold card to be entitled to three free visits to the doctor every year, and says it'll save money by reducing the need for hospital stays.
The visits are part of New Zealand First's SuperGold Health Check Bill, which comes up for its first reading in Parliament next year.
Mr Peters says an average hospital stay for a patient over 65 costs more than 11 thousand dollars, and if the policy saved one percent of those stays it would pay for itself.
