KEY POINTS:
New Zealand feature film Show of Hands has been selected to have its world premiere at this year's Montreal Film Festival.
Written and directed by Anthony McCarten, the film is an off-beat love story starring Melanie Lynskey (Sweet Home Alabama, Heavenly Creatures) and Craig Hall (Eagle vs Shark, The World's Fastest Indian, King Kong).
Show of Hands is based on a novel written by McCarten, co-writer of the commercially successful play Ladies Night.
The film was set in Taranaki, the home province for England-based McCarten and lead actress Lynskey, and is centred on a car yard in an everyday suburb where an endurance competition is being staged.
McCarten will be in Montreal later this month to introduce his film to audiences along with Lynskey and the film's producer, Angela Littlejohn.
The film will be released nationwide on November 13 after a New Zealand premiere in New Plymouth.
Show of Hands was financed by Venture Taranaki Trust, the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ On Air and Television New Zealand.
