A man who escaped from a New Zealand prison 11 years ago is being sought by British police in connection with the killing of a man who lay dead in his flat for about two months.
Brandon Victor Pillay, who was dubbed the "Artful Dodger'' by media in his native South Africa, walked out of Rangipo Prison near Turangi in August 2001 while serving a 15-month sentence for extortion.
He was never recaptured.
Now UK media reports Pillay is being sought by police in connection with the death of 63-year-old Michael Polding, whose body was found with multiple injuries in his Brighton flat on July 16.
Concerned family members contacted police when Mr Polding failed to get in touch. He is thought to have been killed in May, the BBC reported.
