A taste of New Zealand furniture is going on show in Milan this month during the world's biggest furniture show.
Three New Zealand designers, David Trubridge, Simon James and Purple South have hired a private gallery in central Milan to display their furniture.
It is the first time New Zealand design has been featured in a group show at the Salone del Mobile, where some of the elite names of design are showcased.
The aim of the New Zealanders is to attract some of the 260,000 visitors from 150 countries who will attend the six-day event.
"Milan is a really big deal," said Trubridge. "It's the biggest in the world and it's where everyone goes for the newest designs."
Trubridge, one of the country's most celebrated designers, will be exhibiting 10 pieces. "To the Europeans my designs are exotic because they are different to what they do. They see my work as having a New Zealand flavour."
Purple South uses New Zealand objects and images to inspire designers to create furniture with a New Zealand feel. The Milan exhibition will be the first time Simon James has shown in Europe.
