KEY POINTS:
New Zealand Defence Force staff serving in Bosnia are due home over the next few days, having helped restored stability to the region.
After a 15-year presence, the remaining New Zealanders in the area completed their final day on the job yesterday.
Major Michael Brown is among those travelling back home. He said in 1992 up to 300 Defence Force troops were deployed in Bosnia, but presence was down to just three staff officers.
Major Brown said the New Zealanders were returning with a sense of satisfaction at having helped Bosnians on the road to normality.
He said life there now was a far cry from the days of open warfare in 1992 among the Serb, Croat and Muslim forces.
