Ace Masterton snooker exponent Ross Fafeita, pictured above, won't be going for a hat-trick of victories when the Chartered Clubs New Zealand snooker singles championships are played at the Masterton Cosmopolitan Club this week.
Fafeita is being troubled by tennis elbow and is understandably "gutted" at not being able to seek a third successive win in the event.
"It's frustrating, especially with it being played here," he said. "But it's just one of those things."
Fafeita is, however, still very much involved in the championships, this time in an organisational role, both for the snooker and for the billiards which started on Monday and ended yesterday.
As usual the billiards drew a small entry of 10 with two of the standout players being Paul Stocker of Hawke's Bay and Wayne Carey of Brown's Bay in Auckland. The highest break recorded up until yesterday morning was a 53.
The snooker, which got under way today, has a much bigger entry of 50 and Fafeita expects the Wairarapa contingent of Jim Parkin, Ron Wilkie, Pat Bonnington, Terry Hewson and Neil Clark to give a strong account of themselves. They will all be aiming for a place in the final on Saturday afternoon.
