Police have apologised for reporting an incorrect number of crashes over the Queen's Birthday weekend.
Police said this afternoon that a data error meant media were yesterday told there had been more than 800 crashes since Friday afternoon, more than double the number for the same period last year.
Acting road policing manager Inspector Rob Morgan said further inquiries regarding the apparent "spike" revealed a "technical error".
The final figure at 6am today, when the Queen's Birthday official period ended, was 431 crashes, just two more than in the same period last year.
Mr Morgan said police apologised for the error.
