When Daryl Cogger sold his first car as a teenager, he had a feeling he'd done the wrong thing.
The Rotorua musician always regretted selling the car, a 1955 Wolseley 6/90 that belonged to his grandparents and then his parents.
Twelve years ago, Daryl decided that if he could find it, he would get the car back. He started casually looking for it in trade and exchange magazines and more recently on the internet.
He hit the jackpot, discovering someone from Wanganui had it for sale on the Trade Me website.
Daryl contacted his father, Terry Cogger, in Australia. He was keen to buy it for his son and within a few hours the Wolseley was back in the family.
The car cost $4400. Daryl had sold it for $2000, but the vehicle's sentimental value is priceless.
"I remember as a 5-year-old travelling in the back seat with Nana and Granddad going to town for the day from the farm. They are such neat memories," he said.
Daryl got the car in 1982 when he was 15. He drove it for three years before the upkeep got to be too much.
Daryl and his father plan to do a bit of work on the car but won't restore it as a show piece. Daryl says he'll never part with it again.
"There's no point making me an offer for it."
