A police bomb dog was used to search a service station and surrounding properties on Severn St, nothing suspicious was found.
The road was reopened just after midnight.
Police will continue to investigate the incident and would like to hear form anyone who may have information.
The service station and its surrounding properties were evacuated after an anonymous call warning of a bomb threat was received yesterday afternoon.
Police said the call was made to the Oamaru Shell Service Station at 5.15pm, saying a bomb had been left at the Severn St outlet.
