Justice Minister Judith Collins has rejected criticism that she made no effort to reach an agreement on MMP reforms, claiming it was not her role "to organise the Kumbaya sessions of party leaders" to sit down to decide what they wanted.
Ms Collins revealed on Tuesday that the Government was not going to make changes to the MMP system after a review by the Electoral Commission, saying there was not enough support for changes in Parliament.
Labour, the Greens and NZ First criticised Ms Collins for failing to consult properly on the proposals, releasing correspondence which showed she had written to them only once or twice and had not responded to their initial responses on the issues or met to discuss them before saying the proposals would not go ahead.
Green MP Holly Walker said Ms Collins' lack of consultation showed the review had been a "pretence" and National was protecting coalition partners Act and United Future.
Ms Collins said that it was up to party leaders to get together and decide on the approach.
