A 40-year-old man was taken to Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition after he was stabbed outside a Kaipara dairy last night.
The man was reported to have been stabbed in the abdomen outside the Ruawai Dairy on Freyberg Rd, although Newstalk ZB quoted a dairy staff member as saying the man was stabbed at a house about a kilometre away from the store and stopped at the dairy to call for help.
The stabbing happened at about 5pm. The man's condition was described as "serious but stable".
Police Northern Communications Centre Inspector Gavin MacDonald said police found the alleged offender at a nearby address.
A 47-year-old man was "assisting police with their inquiries", and charges would be laid once these were complete, he said.
