KEY POINTS:
Fire safety officers are travelling to the Far North after an early morning fire damaged a pub.
Northern Fire Communications said a neighbour alerted emergency services at 4.50am today that the pub in Okaihau, 34 kilometres north-west of Kawakawa, was on fire.
Up to 11 appliances from around the region attended the fire which was now under control, a fire communications spokesman said.
The pub had been extensively damaged and fire crews were still at the scene, he said.
Fire safety officers from Whangarei were travelling to Okaihau this morning to investigate the cause of the fire.
