KEY POINTS:
A man charged with murdering another man in a rural Northland home yesterday has been remanded in custody.
The man, 30, whose name is suppressed until 11am today, entered no plea when he appeared in Whangarei District Court yesterday.
He was arrested after the victim's body was found at a house in Mangapai, 30km south of Whangarei, early yesterday morning. The victim was believed to have suffered severe head injuries.
A court spokeswoman said the accused man was remanded in custody and would reappear on September 15.
Northland police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said police hoped to name the victim later today.
She said police continued to speak to witnesses and examine the scene.
