An elderly man has died in Northland after what police said was a tragic accident involving a firearm.
Emergency services were called to an address in Mahuta, Kaipara District at around 4.30pm to attend to the 74 year-old victim.
The Northern Communications Shift Commander Inspector Tony Wakelin said the deceased man's wife was at home at the time and is understandably very distressed.
