Northland boaties keep an eye out for missing catamaran

Coastguard New Zealand has alerted boaties in Northland to keep an eye out for a father and daughter sailing to the Bay of Islands who are feared missing.

Police are concerned for the safety of Alan Langdon, 49, and his 6-year-old daughter, Que Langdon, who left Kawhia Harbour south west of Hamilton in a 6-metre catamaran on December 17.

A search is on for Alan Langdon and his daughter Que Langdon who were on board a 6-metre catamaran.

They have had no contact with their family since.

A Coastguard spokesman said a broadcast on all its channels had gone out including to those boaties in Northland waters, asking for any sightings of the missing catamaran.

Police had until yesterday not asked the Rescue Co-ordination Centre of New Zealand for help.

"We act on beacon activation and there's been none from the catamaran so far," a Rescue Co-ordination Centre spokeswoman said.

Detective Paul Overton from Northland police search and rescue said they had not been asked for help by Waikato police as yet because they were still trying to piece together where the vessel might be.

"We're always on standby and will help out if requested," he said.

Police said Mr Langdon was an experienced skipper and his daughter has also had experience on boats.

Police have received a number of calls from the public with information which have assisted with inquiries.

The catamaran is white with blue anti-fouling paint under the waterline and a sail ID number of T878.
