KEY POINTS:
Resurfacing work on the Northern Motorway should be finished tomorrow after heavy rains at the weekend meant a delay in completing the 4.2km stretch.
Motorists are down to one lane for much of the State Highway 1 section heading north between Oteha Valley Road and Silverdale.
Transit New Zealand regional manager Peter Spies thanked motorists for their patience and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the road work.
"Contractors are working around the clock when weather permits, to finish the resurfacing and reopen all lanes to motorists as soon as possible."
But he said drivers are being asked to use alternative routes via SH17 and East Coast Rd during peak times.
Conditions would be monitored closely and motorists should keep listening to the radio for traffic updates.
