Northcote Pt wharf closed after gangplank breaks down

A wonky gangplank has forced the sudden closure of an Auckland wharf.

Northcote Pt wharf remains shut after a hoist operating the gangplank stopped working, preventing people from getting on and off ferries.

An Auckland Transport spokesman said engineers were looking at the malfunctioning equipment.

Until it was fixed the wharf would be out of action.

In the meantime passengers were being taken by bus to the neighbouring Birkenhead wharf during peak hours to catch the ferry across the harbour.
