A homeowner who disturbed a burglar at their North Shore house alerted a group of construction workers who detained the intruder until police arrived at the scene.
Waitemata Police are lauding the crime fighting community effort, posting images on social media of the officers who attended the burglary along with some of the stolen property that's been recovered, including snow sport equipment and various bags of gear.
"Great work today by members of our community who caught a burglar who had just broken into a house in Hillcrest," police wrote.
"The owner came home to catch the offender in the act and alerted a group of construction workers nearby who held him until police arrived shortly after.
"The getaway driver was waiting in a car nearby and was quickly apprehended by police. A 24-year-old man and 26-year-old woman will now be appearing in the North Shore District Court charged with aggravated burglary."
