North Shore City police caught 78 drunk drivers this weekend - a big jump on the last weekend blitz.
More than 7,000 cars have been stopped in Operation Lockdown, targeting people on their way home from licensed premises.
Over 30 cars were impounded, and 20 drivers were so drunk their licences were suspended on the spot.
Operation head, Senior Sergeant Rod Fraser, says it is disappointing so many drivers were over the limit. He warns there will be more operations of its type as they year goes on.
