A North Canterbury school is in lockdown.
Broomfield School, in Amberley, said police have asked it to keep students inside. The school asks parents to not come because they will not be allowed in.
All students and staff are safe.
Principal Andrew Kemp said there was a very large police presence in the area.
Police said they have been at a mental health callout since about 8.30am.
