He said his primary motivation was to contribute to the Masterton and wider Wairarapa communities.
"I've been involved in various community activities and organisations for a number of years now and I see this as a great opportunity to use the skills, experience and knowledge of Masterton and Wairarapa to assist the trust with the good work it does for our town and region."
Mr McAnulty said if elected, his first priority will be listen to the community to find out what it wants from its trust. "The Masterton Licensing Trust is owned by the people of Masterton. So it is essential that, as the community's representative on the trust, I understand the views of the community and its aspirations for the trust moving forward.
"The last thing the trust and the community needs is someone promising the world without understanding their views or learning the workings of the trust first."
Mr McAnulty is a volunteer fire-fighter and a member of a number of community boards and committees including Golden Shears, Wairarapa Supergrans and Carter Court.
He holds a masters degree in positioning and communication, post-graduate diploma in business and administration, post-graduate diploma in politics, a bachelor's degree in politics and is soon to complete a masters degree in management.

Licensing trusts have a primary responsibility to enhance the well-being of their community.
They distribute surplus profits to their community and are accountable to that community through the election of their trustees.
