No tsunami warnings have been issued after three earthquakes in the Pacific this morning.
At 1.04am a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck 160km north-east of Ruatoria at a depth of 70km, GNS Science reported.
It was likely felt in the East Coast and Gisborne areas.
At 5.31am a 4.2 magnitude quake struck 10km north-east of Gisborne at a depth of 30km, and was likely felt in the Gisborne area, GNS Science said.
Civil Defence has not issued a tsunami warning.
At 5.17am a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck off the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia at a depth of 33km.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has not issued a warning although said an earthquake of this size could generate a local tsunami.
