KEY POINTS:
Police and volunteers are continuing to scour the Greymouth area for an elderly resident who hasn't been seen since Wednesday.
David Edward Clark, 72, was reported missing by family members and police say it is out of character for him to disappear.
Sergeant Nigel Orpwood, of Greymouth police, said today searchers were checking a number of areas where it was thought Mr Clark may have gone, but had no firm leads.
A Caucasian of average build with white hair, Mr Clark usually bikes around the town, but his bicycle was found at his Marsden Rd home.
A fresh sighting put him near the Greymouth Evening Star building in central Greymouth about 2pm on Wednesday and Mr Orpwood said police were checking hotels in the vicinity in case he'd paid a visit.
"We are concerned for his welfare," he said. "He's been missing for quite a reasonable time now, he has a medical condition and the weather has been very hot."
Mr Orpwood urged anyone knowing Mr Clark's whereabouts to contact Greymouth police.
