KEY POINTS:
Don't talk to Paul Snowden about temp agencies or internet job sites - he prefers the direct approach.
Mr Snowden, 50, arrived in Auckland from Dunedin just before Christmas and struggled to find labouring or factory work.
So he began job hunting on Tuesday by offering his services at the Nelson St onramp at Spaghetti Junction.
"I thought I'd make a sign and give people what they want. They can see that I'm here and ready to start straight away.
"I have had a lot of texts to say good luck, and have already had to turn down a position as a truck driver because I don't have the right licence."
He said he was not desperate for work, he just did not like the conventional means of finding a job.
"I don't get stressed or worried. I am happy to sit here all day, with all the good vibes I am getting."
When the Weekend Herald spoke with him yesterday, he was busy gardening and had a weekend of work ahead.
He was due to help load a packing container today, then do a little gardening at Albany tomorrow.
Though he said he sometimes felt "a bit of a dick" sitting out for all the world to see, passers-by had given their support in the form of "heaps of beeps and toots and waves".
Mr Snowden prefers working in a garden or doing general property maintenance. He expects to be back in the chair on Monday.
