Police have found no sign of an offender who shot a man in a gang-related attempted murder in Christchurch eight days ago.
They have issued a warrant for the arrest of Patrick Francis O'Brien, 34, in connection to the Aldwins Rd shooting in central southeast Christchurch eight days ago.
Inquiry head Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Tarawhiti said today they were continuing their hunt for O'Brien and but had not received any reports of sightings of him.
O'Brien was jailed for 14 months in October last year after admitting wilfully attempting to pervert the course of justice by threatening witnesses in the Max Shannon murder case.
Mr Shannon, a Black Power gang member, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in August 2000. Three men were later found guilty of murder and jailed for life.
O'Brien had been in custody since May last year and was out on parole. Police said he may still have a firearm and should not be approached.
They are treating Operation Aldwins as an attempted murder.
"This is a serious matter of public safety. We are talking about a person already prepared to take the law into his own hands," Mr Tarawhiti said.
Police also want to talk to a woman, about the same age, who has close associations with O'Brien and has knowledge of what led to the shooting.
O'Brien is described as 183cm tall, of medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair. He is balding and may have a moustache.
The victim, who was shot in the stomach, is still in hospital.
