Police have no footage of a man being shot down in an Auckland dairy last night because the security camera malfunctioned.
Bhagubhai Vaghela, 58, was gunned down where he worked in the Uptown Mini-Mart in New North Rd, Eden Terrace.
Although paramedics tried to revive him, he died at the scene.
Detective Inspector Bernie Hollewand said the camera failure was a setback to the investigation and highlighted the importance of keeping security systems functional.
He said police were disappointed they could not recover any information from the video tape.
The victim's brother-in-law Bipan Rohit said Mr Vaghela was an immigration official in India who moved here three years ago, after visiting a couple of times.
He said Mr Vaghela thought it was a safe and beautiful place.
He said everybody loved Mr Vaghela as he was generous and would not get angry with anyone.
The family have all come together to support each other, but Mrs Vaghela in particular wants to get her husband's body back to say a proper goodbye.
Mr Rohit said she still has not accepted that he is dead and is sick with grief.
The body should be released either tomorrow or later this evening.
